Andrea's Floor Plan Stump

Lately I have been doing a lot more home styling.

Summer has been showing itself lately and 

I think people are just excited for a change this Summer.

Andrea's House

The Brief:

  To solve the furniture issues in the Living Room

And to add lots more storage!!

BEFORE

The Problem:

 Extra large sofa was facing out the window and made TV watching difficult.

Not enough seating.

Not enough storage.

Line of sight down the Hallway went straight to messy TV cords.

Furniture placement felt awkward.

AFTER

The Solution:

Flip flop the TV and the dinning table.

Turn the couch sideways and add a small chair and coffee table.

Add 3 small stools under kitchen bench for more seating.

Place a small buffet in the previously unused space for extra kitchen storage.

Create a lovely line of sight to the dinning table from the entry way.

Create a purpose lane way to the outside without walking through a zone.

I think they will be able to really enjoy this space now.

Fabulous find to finish off the room...

My clients just moved into their new house about 2 months ago.

  As it goes... with kids around, things just end up where they were first put, and then tend to stay that way.

The Brief:

"Please help us with furniture placement"

Before:  The room was off balanced and needed some direction.

After:  We found a beautiful antique in their garage and it was just what they needed

to complete the room.

Now there is a specific place for their fine dinner ware.

I centred the room off the French doors

 and put the odd ottoman in to act as a coffee table.

The room took only about an hour to rearrange and layout. 

 Most of that time was spent cleaning the Antique China cabinet we found in the garage

 which we brought inside to go along the far wall.

It is a good start for them to elaborate on!

*My tip here would be, if there is ever a beautiful feature of a room,

always try to centre your furniture around it. ;)

Physio Open for Business, Hawthorn

These past few weeks I have been a busy little bee...

 running around like mad getting everything 

ready for the opening of a new Physiotherapy clinic in Hawthorn.

 I have been involved in every aspect of this clinic from the beginning.  I was asked to redo the floor plan to accommodate more consulting rooms in the future, as well as how to incorporate a small staff room.  I was also asked for my advice with the layout and organisation of the clinic. 

 It has been really fun for me, to be able to use the same skills I use for "Style My Home" and utilise them in a more corporate, business setting.

Back in Motion Hawthorn is now open for business and I am more than happy with the results.

Flip Flop the Bed $ 0 !!

Before,
The bed was right in the entryway.

After !!
Time:   about 2 hours

Cost of materials:    $ 0

We flipped the room around and put the bed on the far wall.
And the storage unit where the bed was.
We added a few toys to the shelves that mixed and matched.

 The room becomes instantly more inviting without the bed blocking the entry.

There were 2 boxes stacked in the corner

 After...the entry is now free and clear and the perfect place to play.

The wall decals were still age appropriate,

 so we left them on for now.

After

 Rourke Loves his new room,

but more importantly the fact that we included his own original painting of...

"Optimus Prime" the Transformer.

I love this painting too Rourke.
And I know how much you love Transformers!!
We just had to include it for you.
Not bad for a 4 year old.

Rourke's Mum made this lovely piece of art from magnets and paper.
I think it is a lovely touch to add something handmade.

Keep the shelves simple but boyish....

Rourke's Mum is very clever and made these 6 framed pieces by
framing fun pages from a vintage dictionary.
Very cute!

Not bad for  nearly 2 hours work and $ 0 dollars.

Staging and Rearranging

The Brief:

To get the house decluttered and Staged

Ready for Sale

This room had no art work,
I got lucky and found this amazing framed photo in the clients Garage.
Perfect...no need to buy anything new.

Again, I got lucky and found this lovely art piece in a closet in the next room.
It was just what we needed to tie the whole room together.

This room was full of toys before

Just having someone there to help figure out how to de-clutter can be a huge benefit.

After 2 and a half hours we were all sorted.

We sorted out the books and moved all the art work around.

They sold before Auction!!

Their little girl helping us sort what will stay and what will go.

The desk is so much more inviting in the centre of the room.
The lovely baskets from the floor unit were swapped with the books to create a nicer view from the doorway.

"Baby to Boy" Room Makeover

Before
The room was full of Teddy Bears and toys from when Scott was a baby.

After
The theme revolved around
 travel and transportation

         The Brief:  

          

          To take Scott's room

           from a

             BABY's Room

                to a real 

              BOY's Room.

Before
A cluttered dresser top
and Teddy Bear art.

Woody and Buzz had to stay
They are now on the top shelf in the corner.

After
We installed red shelves to display
some of Scott's lovely toys.

Staging to accent
colours and shapes
can have a really
impressive impact.

I met with Dana weeks prior to brainstorm about
 what art work she wanted
 and what she could make.
We came up with some ideas,
 and she made
 4 of the 5 pieces of art in the above photo.

She also made all the art below.

So simple,
Scott's toy plane is now mounted over a map of where they once visited
and framed in a box frame.
Perfectly matching the traveling theme.

Pinterest was very handy with ideas.
How cute is this?

Dana also made this lovely canvas.
She covered it with fabric,
and used a sticker and made his name
out of the remaining bits.

She had these awesome vintage style crates,
and we needed a shelf solution,
So we attached them to the wall
and created an art collage around them.

Scott is thrilled with his room makeover.

Fireplace Fix $ 0

Time:                         1 Hour 15 minutes

The Brief:     To revolve the room around the Fireplace.

Before

The Room was unbalanced and the
Fireplace seemed out of place and there was lots of wasted space.

After

Simply thinking through furniture placement
can make all the difference.

We centered the furniture around the fire place.
We put the art work that belonged together....together, over a piece of existing furniture we moved.
The styling of this house was so easy because they already had so many beautiful things.
It comes down to editing things in or out of the space to make it work at it's best.

They were very pleased and love their new room!
