Kayla's Terrarium Making Birthday Party

My Daughter and I made this Terrarium together and had so much fun making it.

She asked if we could make some with her friends as well, so we came up with the idea to do this for her birthday party.

We made little bunnies and mushrooms for her friends out of Fimo clay.

The table was set up to be interactive.

Once the girls had their moss and plants in, 

they could choose little bits and pieces to add to their terrariums.

We had a Ladybug village,

and a Bunny Town.

Kayla was just as excited to make the food fit the theme, so we chose our party food wisely.

By this stage she was totally in charge of displaying it. ;-)

A bit of Ivy and some twigs set the scene. 

We managed to find most of these items around the house.

Delicate little hands were just what was needed to put it all together.

The girls had a ball and were so excited to take their own terrariums home.

So much fun!! You only turn 7 once!

Art work Inspiration

I saw this painting in a window and I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I knew I had an old board that I could paint over 

so I got the kids together to help me try and recreate it.

We mixed some colours and gel mediums together.

Zach wanted to use his fingers while Kayla was a natural with the pallet knife.  

Since the background was already dark with left a tiny space between the colours.

My friend Sam who loves to bake was great at spreading the paint out evenly.

She had never painted like this before and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Before we knew it we were done.

I think I like our version better too,

especially since it was a collaboration by

friends and family.

Who Said Artwork Had To Be Expensive?

Kayla's 1st Oil on Canvas.  Age 2

I can't believe she turns 6 soon.
Wow how time flies! But these are still up on our wall.
They were meant to be a temporary solution to bare walls, 
but now I just love them because they tell a story.

I had seen this large canvas on sale for $19!
  I had some Oil paints I was dying to try out, 
however my 2 year old, at the time, also wanted to help paint.  So I let her.....
and this is what we came up with.

She helped me with the large painting too.

A few books by the Art to tie in the colours.

Little Indian Headband

Recently, Kayla went to a craft birthday party and came home with a bunch of pretty feathers.

She really wanted to make something with them. 

I bought these leather straps while on holiday,

 so I thought they would be perfect for making a

 little Indian feather headband.

I found some beads with large holes and trimmed the tips of the feathers to fit.

We braided the leather straps,

 then put it all together.

One happy little Indian Princess!!

Collaborative Art

I had been asked to make a collaborative art work for the school fundraiser.

This year we chose something from the TV show "The Block".

Our interpretation of a piece we had seen on TV.

Some school Mums got together

 and this is what we did....

The paint we had left over 

we used on the larger canvas to make an abstract piece.

This one sold for $750!
  An amazing result for the school!

My daughter actually helped

 finish off the art work.

So, her Kindy asked

 if I could do something similar for their fundraiser too.

The Finished Piece

I made the kids do every step

 from preparing the boards,

to the final ink blowing stage.

The pieces took a few days to complete.

We layered them with heaps of texture.

Each one is 120cm x 90cm

 on Timber Board

We gave a few instructions,

but really just let them go.
