Kayla's Terrarium Making Birthday Party

My Daughter and I made this Terrarium together and had so much fun making it.

She asked if we could make some with her friends as well, so we came up with the idea to do this for her birthday party.

We made little bunnies and mushrooms for her friends out of Fimo clay.

The table was set up to be interactive.

Once the girls had their moss and plants in, 

they could choose little bits and pieces to add to their terrariums.

We had a Ladybug village,

and a Bunny Town.

Kayla was just as excited to make the food fit the theme, so we chose our party food wisely.

By this stage she was totally in charge of displaying it. ;-)

A bit of Ivy and some twigs set the scene. 

We managed to find most of these items around the house.

Delicate little hands were just what was needed to put it all together.

The girls had a ball and were so excited to take their own terrariums home.

So much fun!! You only turn 7 once!

Little Indian Headband

Recently, Kayla went to a craft birthday party and came home with a bunch of pretty feathers.

She really wanted to make something with them. 

I bought these leather straps while on holiday,

 so I thought they would be perfect for making a

 little Indian feather headband.

I found some beads with large holes and trimmed the tips of the feathers to fit.

We braided the leather straps,

 then put it all together.

One happy little Indian Princess!!

Swing.... and Colour it Fun!

Every morning our family is in a rush to get out the door.

Half of the time I am the only one ready, 

and the other half the kids are the only ones ready.

I thought...

wouldn't it be great if I had a fun swing or something out the front

 to keep them occupied for just a few minutes,

 while I do all the last checks before leaving the house.

My little DIY shed had some pieces of wood I cut to size,

and I found a sturdy Cobalt blue wrapped wire I salvaged from one of our recent renovations.

At the time I really had no idea what I would do with it,

but it came in handy for making this little swing for the kids.

I taped up the wood to leave the edges exposed,

then spray painted it with a fluro pink/orange like colour.

SUCCESS!!! 

They Love It!!

 I get a few extra minutes in the morning

to double check I haven't forgotten anything.

The funny thing is, as I was making this I thought the colours were a bit odd for a swing, but somehow still worked together and felt modern.

It only took a minute to look around the house

 and see why I was so attracted

 to this beautiful colour combination of bright neons and blues,

 old and new.

I am pretty sure I saw one of their swings somewhere and that is where I got the idea to make one for the kids.

Their workshop is so cool and casual and worth checking out it you love to make things!

They are also planning on doing classes to make their lovely swings here in Melbourne.

Wooden Palette into Kids Jet Plane

This past weekend we had a wooden palette we needed to get rid of. Zach had the idea to build a plane out of it, so we thought we would give it a go.

We had to design it with two seats....of course.

 Here is Zach sitting proudly on the back seat.

 ...then doing a bit of sanding.

Kayla thought it was the "most fun ever" to paint it grey. 

 We found some cool stickers and electrical tape to decorate with.

We even made little detachable rockets.....

it is all in the detail  ;-)

Here Zach is doing a final check over to see if we need any more stripes.  

It took a lot of convincing that "less is more"!!

The kids were trilled with the end product and they had a blast creating it.
It was so fun.
